The road connecting obesity and coronary vasomotor function: straight line or U-turn?

چکیده
t a b e Obesity as reached epidemic proportions globally, with approximately one-half billion people (12% of the world’s population) considered obese (1). In the United States alone, the prevalence of obesity has increased by 50% in the past 30 years to where now 70% of all adults are classified as either overweight or obese (2). More sobering is that 30% of all children between 2 and 19 years of age fall into these 2 categories (3). Obesity is typically defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Hot Flashes and Night Sweats and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Postmenopausal Women
Introduction: Hot flashes (HF) and night sweats (NS) are due to vasomotor instability and could be recognized as cardiovascular risk markers. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the relationship between vasomotor instability and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods: This observational cross sectional study, was performed in Chamran Hospit...
متن کاملThe Effect of Educational Intervention on Body Mass Index and Thyroid Function Tests in Children and Adolescents with Obesity and Overweight
Background Studies declare the possibility of thyroid abnormalities in the obese patients and return of normal thyroid activities after weight loss. Therefore in this study, the effect of educational intervention on body mass index (BMI) and thyroid function tests in obese children has been evaluated. Materials and Methods: The current randomized clinical trial research included 126 overweight...
متن کاملMechanisms of coronary microvascular adaptation to obesity.
The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with clustering of cardiovascular risk factors in individuals that may greatly increase their risk of developing coronary artery disease. Obesity and related metabolic dysfunction are the driving forces in the prevalence of MetS. It is believed that obesity has detrimental effects on cardiovascular function, but its overall impact on the vasomotor reg...

BackgroundChildhood obesity has become a global epidemic. In the recent studies has reported risk of thyroid dysfunction due to obesity. Therefore, this study intends to compare the relative frequency of thyroid function disorders in obese and overweight children with non-obese children.Materials and MethodsThis case-control study during 2015 to 2016 in Birjand, Iran was done on 137 children an...
متن کاملEffects of sphingomyelinase and sphingosine on arterial vasomotor regulation.
The sphingomyelin pathway is an important signal transduction system regulating various cellular functions. However, little is known about the effect of sphingomyelin metabolites on vasomotor function. We examined the vascular effects of sphingomyelin, sphingosine, and sphingomyelinase (SPMase) in vitro. In pig coronary rings precontracted with prostaglandin F2 alpha, sphingosine and SPMase evo...
